Today is the first workshop class. I did some research during the holiday, but I didn’t finish it completely. The general theme of this time is unlovely. I choose clown phobia as my theme. Because our term is very short, I have to hurry up.
In the first class, we need to do draping on the stage. I didn’t have any inspiration at first, so I adopted the method used in the previous project – first fold a lot of white paper, extract a feasible shape from the previous research page and cut it out. Then use these pieces of paper to concave the shape on the platform. The choice I chose was the shape of the collar lace in the clown’s clothes. I simulated the 3D effect by folding, and put it on the stage for experiments.
After making two or three shapes, the teacher came to coach me. The teacher said that I can add pieces of paper with the same shape but different sizes and mix them for more combinations, which can make the shape more layered. At the later stage, you can use fabric instead of paper, and use pleating technology to imitate the shape of the clown’s collar.
I also used the mobile app for mirror photography to explore more symmetrical shapes.
